On 15 January 2013 TRR granted a telecommunication license exception to Rensarie College pursuant to section 14(1) of the Telecommunications and Radiocommunications Regulation Act 2009 (Act). The exception was granted by TRR following the signing of an Agreement between TRR and Rensarie College (RC), effective from 1 December 2012 (“Agreement”) for the management and operation of the Rensarie Telecentre. The Agreement permits RC through the Rensarie Telecentre to provide a telecommunications services (internet) to the public.
However, given the circumstances of this pilot, and because Rensarie Telecentre is a Government initiated project intended to test the roll out of Broadband internet services in rural areas, the issuing of a license to it is not required, and would not be efficient or necessary for the provision of services rendered to the community and the general public of Rensarie.
